Swift Global Fibre Optic Print

Swift Global (K) Ltd as part of the Altech Group of Companies – SA has secured capacity with the commissioning of the undersea fiber optic cable ( SEACOM ) .

The cable has been laid by a company called Seacom . Seacom is a Mauritian Company partly owned by African Investors . The cable connects Europe to Southern , East Africa and South Asia via physical cable laid undersea.

The benefits of this include :

  1. VOIP and Internet delivery within a single medium with absolute independence and at high speed .
  2. Enables video conferencing which saves on travel costs for management , this can be done either at Fusion Capital or Swift Global offices .
  3. Encourages e-commerce in that businesses in Kenya can now prospect , sell and manage customers outside their geographical region .

The fiber optic capacity will be more affordable that the current scarce satellite capacity . We encourage our customers to get redundancy due to the frequent downtimes experience on the trunk carrying the capacity from Mombasa into Nairobi making the expensive VSAT capacity still be in demand until the second cable lands ( TEAMS) in a few months , the only form of redundancy we can implement is through satellite in that when the fiber optic cable is down we immediately switch traffic to VSAT .

While the only costs affected are the Internet gateway costs , businesses now have a chance to subscribe for enough capacity to run their products and services.

More Advantages of Swift Global Fibre Optic

  1. Low Transmission Loss
  2. Low Cost
  3. Security
  4. Electromagnetic Interference Tolerant
  5. Size: Lighter and Smaller Than Metal
  6. Signal Capacity: Hundreds of Wires Can Be Replaced by One Fiber
  7. Designed to meet both mechanical and optical requirements for cable manufacture and for in-service system performance.
  8. Various types of transmission fiber are used to manage dispersion and nonlinear effects in undersea systems.Cost Reduction

On average 1 Megabit of satellite capacity costs $3000. Only for downlink currently on the wireless, but as fibre becames a reality, the cost goes down drastically. That is why we seek to connect Head Quarters on fibre and centralize the bandwidth.

  1. High Quality Services,
  2. High speed internet, and
  3. More Secure and better communication systems
  4. Fibre Optic cable has capacity to carry more data, faster than any other technology.
  5. Not plagued by the latency and delay issues experienced by users of satellite and wireless systems.

Not susceptible to weather conditions as is the case in satellite technology where dense cloud cover and heavy rainfall lead to communication failure.
